MOODYMANN (Mahogani Music – USA)

SAT 9 MAR - MOODYMANN

We are chuffed to announce and welcome back Moodymann to The Spice Cellar Sat March 9.

Kenny Dixon, Jr. AKA Moodymann has outspoken views on the state of black techno and his aversion to publicity has placed him in a league occupied by few Detroit producers, though his tech-house productions are soulful in a way few would expect. Dixon began producing early in the ’90s, and inaugurated his own KDJ Records in 1994 with the Moody Trax EP. With singles like “The Day We Lost the Soul” and “I Can’t Kick This Feelin When It Hits”, he proved himself as one of the best fusers of short, soulful disco samples to the harder minimalist Detroit techno.

Moodymann’s sound is a hybrid form of techno and house that he arrived at via innovative use of reworked riffs and grooves, classic soul and jazz samples, low-slung bass lines and an approach to drum programming that is diametrically opposed to the tendency to push the tempo faster and faster.
He has achieved legendary status with gems like “Sunday Morning”, “Shades of Jae”, and his remix of Innerzone Orchestra’s “People Make the World Go Round” and is undoubtedly one of the last true innovators in dance music.
Of his own style, he says, “I don’t make music for the masses to dance to, I make music for the small majority that listens.”

Moodymann is for the connoisseurs…
